MEST4 Linked production: Research and planning

Official Music (going to be used for the official Linked Production): Ice Cube - Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It

#1

Since this is the actual production video i will use most of the scenes from this music video. Also the way the camera movement and camera angles are taken and also i will be using more of this sort of environment in my video as it links with the lyrics so it will have some similar shots to the original.
Since the video follows a different genre (reggae) it has to be edited in a specific way so i have to approach it differently to mach the slow beat this is why I'm deciding to add more of a narrative throughout the video since the chorus of the song is "Finally the herbs come around". since the narrative aspect of this music video is strong and delivers a message to the audience so i have to make sure that i meet those requirements e.g facial expressions camera movement to create more tension.
#2

I will use some aspect of the visual style of this video e.g some freeze frames. i think that this is really effective and powerful and will enlighten my music video more further. The entire chirography of the video is so amazing Even the visual element of the video is very nice in terms of capturing the hip hop aspect as well as mixing it with a lot of freeze frames.

There are some small techniques in which i can use e.g the camera is stabilised on a Steadicam which makes the shots much smoother than shaky footage giving it more of a cinematic approach and feel. I'm also going to apply some of the colour grading techniques used this video this will work great it some night scenes where there is a lot of low key lighting giving it a more cooler tone which helps with the cinematic style.

#3

I really like the atmospheric approach to this video e.g the cars the girls and the overall vibe to this video giving it more of that cool and gangsta approach which is what I'm aiming for in my video as its really controversial and contains scenes with a car so this video gave me ideas in which i can execute certain scenes e.g the camera movement when Dr Dre is rapping. I'm planning to have people in the background as it seems to be more powerful than one person.

Locations/Lighting

This scene is filmed in a depraved area since there is flats at the back i was thinking of shooting this particular scene in council estates this will fit really well with this scene. i will have a few people in the background this will help give the video more power and in my opinion it fills in the gaps. These small things makes a difference to the overall visual as having people in the background and camera focused on the protagonist makes the protagonist stand out even more.

scenes like this will be filmed with a Steadicam or a mount in order to capture the full frame action of this scene e.g the car window interior/exterior. These shots are also like POV's but they will help a lot as the protagonist in this scene is trading/selling drugs. So portraying shots like this will really help with all the visual aspect of the video.
